Chidambaram Temple History :

Chidambaram Temple is believed to be 1000-2000 years old. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva called Thirumoolanathar with his consort Sivakamasundari. The main deity is Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer. Temple in which Kali performed Dance to compete with Nataraja is situated near the main temple. Temple of Kali is believed to have been built by Chola King Kopperumsingan. Nandanar attained Mukthi in this Temple in Chidambaram.

Shiva appeared as Swayambu moorthi .
One of the Panch Bootha Sthalam representing Aakasa, the Sky.
Devaram songs were recovered from this Temple.
In Siavism, Temple Means Chidambaram Temple only.
Thillai Kali is having 04 faces which is unique form.
In Thillai Kali temple shrine for Godess Saraswati is there.
The feminine form of Dhakshinamoorthy called Kadambavana Dakshina Rupini is present only in Thillai Kali temple.
The prime Gold sabha of the five where Nataraja performed Cosmic Dance.
Temple area is built in whooping 51 acres with rich sculpture.
Worshiping Nataraja by performing artists blesses them with bright future.
