Thiruvisanallur is situated at a distance of 13 KMs from Kumbakonam in Mayiladuthurai route.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva called Sivayoginathar with his consort Soundaranayaki.

Built during the period of Paranthaga Cholan around 1000 years ago, and there are 97 inscriptions available in this temple pertaining to Chola Dynasty. This temple is one of 276 Padal Petra Sthalam and the 43rd temple praised in Thevara Hymns.

Significance of Thiruvisanallur – Sivayoginathar Temple :

The Lingam is Swayambu and Sun rays fall on lingam on first three Chithirai Month (April-May).
The temple is having a Sun Clock built 700 years ago.
The clock is designed to show time from morning 6 to evening 6 with the help of Sun rays. This the example of Chola’s mastery over science of Astronomy.
As per Sthala Puranam this temple has seen all four Yugas.
Perumal is appearing with his consort as Lakshmi Narayanan in this temple.
There are 04 Bhairavars (Chathur Kalabhairavar) and it is believed Bhairavar manifested himself in each Yuga.
