Ayyavadi Temple History :

This temple is situated in a village called Ayyavadi, which is very close to Kumbakonam Town (8 kms). Thirunageswaram Rahu temple and Opiliappan Perumal temple are very close to this temple. As per the legend, this temple is believed to be in existence from the Ramayana period and Lord Rama had worshipped the Goddess Prathiyangara and performed the Nikumbala Homam to conquer Ravana’s son Indrajith. The Pancha Pandavas of the great Mahabaratha epic, were believed to have worshipped the Goddess Prathiyangara Devi here and performed the Nikumbala Homam to redeem their kingdom.. The Presiding Deity is Lord Siva, known as Agastheeswarar in this temple and his consort, Goddess Parvathi is depicted as Dharma Samvardini . Mother Prathiyangara Devi has a separate shrine in this temple and is very very powerful .This temple is popularly known as “Ayyavadi Prathiyangara Devi Temple”. It is a world famous temple for neutralising , nullifying and removing the bad forces from one’s life.

About Goddess Maha Prathiyangara Devi :

According to Puranas and Vedas,after slaying Hiramya Kasibu, Lord Narasimha wasn’t able to control his Anger and the universe suffered in the process. In order to appease Lord Narasimha, Lord Shiva assumed the form of a Sarabha bird,which comprises three forms - an animal, a human and a bird. As per the Vedas,Goddess Prathiyangara was born from the third eye of Sarabeshwarar, a ferocious form of Lord.Siva. The Devi quelled the anger of Lord Narasimha and became very ferocious. The Devas and Rishis perfomed rituals and prayed to her to calm down. Then she cooled down and was named as Maha Prathiyangara Devi.

Significance of Prathiyangara Temple :

By performing Homa (Havan) in this temple, one can win court cases & legal battles , neutralize and nullify the effects of Evil Eye, Black Magic and get recovery from debts.
It is strongly believed that all forces that obstructs one’s marriage will be neutralized by performing this Homa in this temple.
