Thirunthudevankudi – Karkadeswarar Temple :

Thirunthudevankudi is situated at a distance of 13 KMs from Kumbakonam. This temple is one of 276 Padal Petra Sthalam and the 42nd temple praised in Thevara Hymns.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva called Karkadeswarar with his consorts Apoorvanayaki and Arumarunthunayaki.

Significance of Thirunthudevankudi – Karkadeswarar Temple :

Lord Shiva swayambu moorthy and there is a hole on the top of Lingam.
It is believed Parvathy who worshipped Shiva in for of a crab got united with the lord through this hole.
There is a scar in the head of the linga made by Indiraa.
There are two Ambal sannathis in this temple.
There is no sannathi for Nava grahas.
Unlike other temples here the medicinal herb Nangai is Sthala Vruksham.
