  • This temple is situated in Tamil Nadu Thiruvarur District. Sitthamalli village.
  • Sitthamalli Village is located in the Mannargudi – Muthupettai route.
  • From Muthupettai this temple is in a distance of around 10 KMs. Sitthamalli village can be reached from nearby towns like Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi and Pattukkottai.

Sithamalli - Kulasekara Swamy Temple History :

  • The Sitthamalli village was called as “Munnoothi Mangalam Agraharam” in old days.
  • Lord Sri Shiva of this temple and this place are connected with the Mahabharatha era/li>
  • Pandavas worshipped Sri Shiva here to come out of the depression when they were in the exile in the forest (“Agyatha Vas”) in the Virada Parva (period) of Mahabharatham.
  • Lord Shiva blessed Pandavas and they got back their mental courage.
  • This temple build by King Kulasekara Pandian hence Sri Shiva of this temple is called as Sri Kulasekara Swamy.
  • The Kings of Chola Kingdom, Rajarajan III and Rejendran III , contributed a lot for the development of this temple during their ruling period.
  • Later days the rulers from Nayak Vamsa (Dynasty) contributed a lot as patronage to this temple during their era.
  • The great Tamil Saint Sri Agathiyar worshiped Lord Shiva in this temple.
  • The Kumbabishegam (part of consecration ceremony) of this temple carried out in the year 2010 after a long period.

Significance of Sithamalli - Kulasekara Swamy Temple :

  • It is a complete Sri Shiva temple with Sri Kulasekara Swamy as main deity (Moovalar) with his consort Sri Abirami Thayar and all the other Parivara Moorthis(Deities)..
  • This temple is the West facing one. Every year in 21,22,23 of the Tamil month Masi, Sun rays are being fall on the Moolavar Sri Kulasekara Swamy in the evening time. It is believed that Sri Surya Bhagawan worship God Sri Shiva (Surya Pooja) during these days.
  • It shows the stunning Architectural ability of ancient Kings and civilizations.
  • The Tamil month Vaikasi Visagam star day is being celebrated here in a grand way. Lot of devotees come and pray here for their mental peasefulness and clear mindset.
  • Sri Sundareswarar and Sri Meenakshi Thayar shrines are also there in this temple.
  • Lord Muruga in two different forms in this temple. One is in the name of Sri Thandayuthapani. This statue is a unique one. Sri Thandayuthapani is made of a single stone and in the standing posture with his Thandam (Baton) . When one strikes on this Thandam it produces a different sound.
  • The other form is in the name of Sri Subramaniyar with his consorts Sri Valli and Sri Deivanai in a separate shrine.
  • Sri Ganapathi of this temple is called as “Sri Narthana Vinayagar” . Sri Ganapathi is in a dancing posture on a snake (“Nagam”) which is a unique kind of form, can be seen in this temple only.
  • All the Pariva Devathas (Deities) like Lord Dhakshna Moorthi,Sri Bhairavar, Sri Surya Bhagawan and Nava Gragha are present in their respective shrines in this temple.
  • Saint Sri Subramaniya Yatheenthral alias Sri Subramaniya Sasthirigal’s Samathi (“Adhistanam”) is also there, nearby to this temple.
  • He was a “Siddhar” with spiritual power lived in the era between 1866 to 1933. He attained Mukthi here in Sitthamalli.
  • There is a separate temple in this village for Sri Varatha Raja Perumal (Lord Vishnu) with his consorts, also shower his blessings to the devotees.
  • Adjacent to this temple a tank is there which is considered as the “Thala Theertham” of this temple.
  • A well inside the temple where sweet drinking water is available.
