  • This Temple is situated in Tamil Nadu Thiruvarur District, Thillai Vilagam village.
  • Thillai Vilagam village is located in the Pattukkottai – Vedaranyam, East Coast route.
  • This place is 17 Kilo Meters away from Thiruthuraipoondi town.

Thillaivilagam - Veera Kothandaramar Temple History :

  • Bhagawan Sri Rama’s devotee, Shri Veludevar was living in this place once and he had a dream to build a temple to Sri Ramachandra Moorthi.
  • When Sri Veludevar started the temple work here with his associates, they found statues of Sri Rama , Sri Seetha Devi , Sri Lakshmana and Sri Anjaneya , in the soil.
  • These statue of Sri Rama is around 5 feet in height whereas statues of Sri Seetha Devi , Sri Lakshmana and Sri Hanuman statues are of around 4 feet in height.
  • These idols are belong to the 12 th Century.
  • There is a temple for Sri Natarajar, very close to this temple. Sri Natarajar is also called as “Thillai Natarajar”. Thillai refers the place Chidambaram where the well-known Sri Natarajar temple is located. Hence this village is called as “Thillai Vilagam”.
  • There are so many historical evidences available in this province that Sri Ramachandra Moorthi reached Sri Lanka passing through this area and returned back to Ayothya after the battle, via this area.
  • These evidences spread from Vedaranyam to Rameshwaram as temples and monuments related to Sri Ramachandra Moorthi.
  • In the nearby town Kodiyakarai one could find a “Ramar Patham” (Foot of Sri Rama) in the coastal area. It is believed that this is the palce where Sri Rama saw Sri Lanka and analysed the chances of crossing the ocean to reach Sri Lanka.

Those are Sri Veera Kothanda Ramar temple at Thillai Vilagam, Sri Kothanda Ramar temple at Mudikondan, Sri Kothanda Ramar temple at Adambar, Sri Kothanda Ramar temple at Vaduvoor and Sri Ramar temple at Paruthiyur.
  • The statues of Sri Rama and all the other deities statues are nicely crafted that one could even see the vein in the statues.
  • Sri Veera Kothanda Ramar , Sri Seetha Devi, Sri Lakshmana and Sri Hanuman are present in the standing posture at the “Moola Sthanam” (Garbha Griha ).
