Thakkolam Jalanathaeswarar Temple History :

Thakkolam is a village situated at 30 KMs from Kanchipuram. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity and called as Jalanathaeswarar with Goddess Girirajakannikambal.

This temple is praised in Thevara Hymns. 12th temple of Thondai Nadu.. Thakkolam stone temple is believed to be built by Pallava King Abrajithavarman during 800 AD.

Dhakshayini (Parvathy) who attended the Dhaksha yaga against the wishes of Lord Shiva attained vimochanam by worshipping here.

Significance of Thakkolam Jalanathaeswarar Temple :

Since Kamadhenu, the devine cow has worshipped here the effect of our prayers is 100 times more.
The lingam created by Parvathi for worship is made of sand..
It is believed to save the lingam from raging waters, Parvathy embraced the lingam. The marks are still present over the lingam.
As Parvathy embraced the lingam, now also the archakas perform poojas without touching it. This is unique speciality of this temple.
The colour of lingam changes from white in Daksinayana to red in Utharayana.
All the statues of this temple are in Ananda Posture and wonderfully crafted.
Ambal sannathi is north facing and hence considered powerful
All poojas are performed to Ambal first and then to Shiva
Ambal to be worshipped first and after that only Shiva is performed
Dakshinamoorthy is in dancing position which is unique to this temple
Important Prarthana and parihara sthalam for Guru Bhagawan.
