This Temple is situated in Tamil Nadu Thiruvarur District, Needamangalam town.
This temple is located in the heart of the town, “Periya Vennaru” river and “Koraiyaru” river are flowing on both the sides of Needamangalam.
Needamangalam town can be reached from nearby towns like Kumbakonam , Mannargudi, Thanjavur and Thiruvarur.

The present Needamangalam town was called in the name “Neerattu Mangalam” or “Needazhi Mangalam” in old days.
Needamangalam town is located in a significant geographical location. The river “Periya Vennaru” here split into three branches named Koraiyaru , Vennaru and Pamaniyaru.
The rivers “Vennaru” and “Koraiyaru” flow around this town Needamangalam as a garland which makes this place like an island.
The Maratha King Pratab Singh Rajesaheb Bhosle, build this temple in the year 1761 AD. He was the second son of Maratha King Tukkoji.
The King Pratab singh also called as Maharaja Prathaba Simha, was the ruler of the Thanjavur province in the years between 1740 to 1763 AD.
King Prathaba Simha’s wife was Rani Yamunabai. She was living here in a palace. This place was called as “Yamunambapuram” for some time.
The king with his wife Rani Yamunabai worshipped in this place for child boon. The couple were blessed with a child.
The King Prathaba Simha build this temple here because of the Santhana Prapthi (Child Boon) he got by the blessings of Sri Santhana Ramaswamy.
The King also build a temple for Lord Shiva, situated nearby to Sri Santhana Rama Swamy temple. Lord Sri Vishvanathar and Thayar Sri Visalakshi are showering their blessings to the devotees in that temple.
The town Needamangalam has so many other temples also. Sri Komugeswarar temple is the significant one. One of the “Devara Moovar” who sung hymns on Lord Shva, Sri Sundara Moorthi Nayanar worshipped in this temple.
