  • Kanchanagaram is the birthplace of Manakanjarar, one of the 63 Nayanmars.
  • It is believed that the Krithika nymphs, who took care of Lord Muruga, were born here too.
  • It is believed that Lord Muruga was born here when Goddess Parvati merged the six divine children, that were nurtured by the Krithika nymphs, into one divine child, Lord Muruga.
  • It is believed that the divine rays from Lord Shiva which created the six divine children were golden in nature, and so this place is called Kanchanagaram.
  • The name Gathra Sundareswarar is a modification of the name Karthika Sundareswarar.
