  • The temple is in the village of Thirumuruganpoondi, which is about 9 kms. from the town of Tiruppur, and about 50 kms. from the city of Coimbatore.
  • The prime deity of the temple is Lord Madeswaran, a form of Lord Shiva. There is a separate Sannidhi for Lord Ketu.

Thirumuruganpoondi – Thirumuruganatha Swamy Temple History :

  • This temple is near the Thirumuruganpoondi Thirumuruganatha Swamy Temple.
  • As per legend, Lord Murugan killed the demon king Surapadman to protect the Devas. This was however considered as the sin of Brahmahathi. To overcome this sin, Lord Murugan is said to have installed a Linga in this temple region, dug a spring with his Divine Spear, the Vel, and is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva.
  • It is said that the famous Saivite saint and Nayanar of the 8th century CE, Sundarar, while arriving in the temple region, rested in a Vinayaka temple, and forgot to get thoughts of Lord Shiva. To test Sundarar, Lord Shiva is said to have sent his Bhutaganas to steal all of Sundarar’s possessions. Sundarar is said to have sang angrily about Lord Shiva, blaming him for his losses. Lord Shiva was pleased with this and is then said to have appeared before Sundarar, blessed him, and restored all of his possessions.
