Ettukkudi - Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple History :
This Temple is situated in Tamil Nadu Nagapattinam District. 32 KM away from Nagapattinam. One can reach Ettukudi from Thiruvarur also. It is 28 Kilo meters away from Thiruvarur.
The main diety of this Temple is Lord Muruga called here in the name of Sri Subramania Swamy, at the same time God Shiva (Sri Soundaranayagar) and Goddess Parvathi (Anandavalli) are also as significant as Sri Subramania Swamy.
The temples in Porulvaitha Cherry( now called as Poravacherry), Enkan and Ettukudi are associated with one another because of Lord Muruga’s idols of these Temple are made by the same architect.
All these idols are look like same in appearance. Lord Muruga is sitting on the peacock with his six faces.
It is belived that when the sculptor was about to finish Lord Muruga’s statue , the peacock was started to fly. The ruler shouted that “etti pidi” (catch it). Hence this Temple is called as “Ettukudi”.

Significance of Ettukkudi - Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple :
- The nine warriors who accompanied Lord Muruga , at the time of the battle with Demon King Soorabathman, are called as Nava Veerargal (The nine soldiers).
- All the idols of these nine soldiers are present in this Temple.
- The great Saint Sri Arunagirinathar praised Lord Muruga of this Temple , in his tamil poems.
- It is belived that the lord Muruga appears like a child or a youth or an elderly form as per the imagination of the devotees.
- Vanmeega Siddar’s (saint) samathi is also in this Temple under the Vanni Tree.
- It is belived that the Lord Muruga , removes the fear complex of the devotees, especially children who are having fear complex.
- There are separate shrine for Sri Narthan Ganapathi, Sri Juradevar, Sir Srinavasa Soundararaja Perumal, Sri Hanuman, Mononmani Thayar (Mother), Sri Ammaiyappan , Goddess Mahalakshmi, Sri Sani Bhagawan, Sri Bhairavar.
