Patteeswaram Temple History :

Patteeswaram is a village located near Kumbakonam town (10 kms), in Tamilnadu.

The Presiding Deity is Lord Siva, known as Dhenupureeswarar (patteeswarar) in this temple and his consort, Goddess Parvathi is depicted as Gnanambigai . Mother Sri.Durga has a separate shrine in this temple and is very very powerful .This temple is popularly known as “Patteeswaram Durga Temple”. It is a world famous temple for neutralising , nullifying and removing the bad forces from one’s life.

As per the legend, this temple was built during the Chola Dynasty using Dravidian style of architecture.

This temple is considered one of the shrines of the 275 Padal Petra Sthalams of Lord Siva.One can find it glorified in the early mythological Tevaram poems.

About Goddess Durga in this temple :

She is the combined force of all the Gods to eliminatethel evil forces. She is seen here with a calm and peaceful countenance.
Goddess Durga is known for granting boons to her devotees instantaneously. In Tamil language she is hailed as “Thruitha Nivarani “ ie: one God who can give instant relief from problems.
Lord Rama had worshipped Mother Durga and won the battle.After he killed Ravana, he got rid of his sin (killing Ravana- a staunch Siva devotee and an exponent of Music and Arts) by installing a Sivalingam and worshipped.
Yudhistrar ,the eldest brother of the Pancha Pandavas believed to have worshipped the goddess Durga here. Lord Krishna had advised Arjuna to perform Pujas to the goddess.
