Patteeswaram is a village located near Kumbakonam town (10 kms), in Tamilnadu.
The Presiding Deity is Lord Siva, known as Dhenupureeswarar (patteeswarar) in this temple and his consort, Goddess Parvathi is depicted as Gnanambigai . Mother Sri.Durga has a separate shrine in this temple and is very very powerful .This temple is popularly known as “Patteeswaram Durga Temple”. It is a world famous temple for neutralising , nullifying and removing the bad forces from one’s life.
As per the legend, this temple was built during the Chola Dynasty using Dravidian style of architecture.
This temple is considered one of the shrines of the 275 Padal Petra Sthalams of Lord Siva.One can find it glorified in the early mythological Tevaram poems.
Thirumeichur is situated at a distance of 13 KMs from Mayiladuthurai. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva called Meganathar with his consort Lalithambigai.
This temple is one of 276 Padal Petra Sthalam and the 56th temple in southern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevara Hymns.This temple is believed to be built by Chola Kings.
