Kumbeswaran Temple History

Kumbeswararan Temple, believed to be more than 2000 years old, is located in the heart of the temple town, Kumbakonam. This is the place shown by Lord Shiva to Lord Brahma to restart the creation after the Maha Pralayam. The lingam is made of sand and believed to be swayambu (Self Manifested) in nature.

This temple has got a massive structure and is one of the biggest temples in India. The temple complex is spread over a sprawling space of more than 31,000 sq.ft with 4 entrances on all the 4 directions.

The name of the town “ Kumbakonam” itself is believed to have been derived from this temple name only.

Significance of Kumbeswaran Temple :

  • Lord Shiva in this temple is Swayambu murthy. The Base of Lingam is broad at the bottom and narrow as a needle point at the top.
  • This temple is considered one of the shrines of the 275 Padal Petra Sthalams of Lord Siva.One can find it glorified in the early mythological Tevaram poems/Hymns written and sung by the famed Appar and Sambandhar in their verses in praise of this Lord.
  • Special poojas offered on Magam star days give devotes fulfilment of their wishes.
  • Based on the philosophy of “ world means Father and Mother” the prahara structure covers both Shiva and Parvathy shrines. This is a unique feature of this temple.

  • The cancellation charges are mentioned hereinafter :

    • = 72 hrs -; Zero cancellation charges. 100% refund excluding convenience charges paid, if any.

    Between 72 hrs &; 48 hrs; - 25% cancellation charges &; convenience charges paid, if any.

    Between 48 hrs &; 24 hrs; - 50% cancellation charges ;&; convenience charges paid, if any.

    <=24 hrs;; - NO REFUND

  • If the order booked falls within the time frame of the above policy and cancelled afterwards by the customer, the cancellation charges will be applicable as per the above slot anyway.
  • The rescheduling ( one time) of a service is possible within the available service categories pertaining to that city; and or date; for one time only.You can change the date of the booked service prior to 72 hours and or change it from one service (booked service) to another service.
  • For rituals like Amavasya Tharpanam and all Punniyakala Tharpanams like ( Chithrai vishu, Aadi Amavasaya,Thai Amavasya,Thula vishu); NO REFUND WILL BE MADE IRRESPECTIVE OF THE TIME OF CANCELLATION).;
  • If the service professional is running late by over 60 minutes and ;the customer wants to cancel the order, then the cancellation charges will NOT be applicable
  • Due to any unforeseen circumstances or internal reasons, Divinvite reserves the right to cancel any order at any point of time and Divinvite will not be liable to anyone for the same.
  • If the visit is cancelled by the service professional or Divinvite then customer is NOT liable to pay cancellation charges.
