According to the Grhya Sutras, Namakarana ceremony is typically performed on the twelfth day after the birth of a baby. The Naming Ceremony is performed to invoke the blessings of Agni God,Navagrahas and other Gods. The appropriate day for this function is the 10th, 12th or 16th day of the child's birth.
